A trip to Europe's most beautiful country...

Imagine a land where you can experience absolute calm, and a complete escape from your normal hectic routines.
Imagine a land where it's possible to rent a cottage next to a lake and find that there's no other people for miles around.
Imagine taking daily saunas and leaping into crystal clear waters that can be warmer than anywhere in the Mediterranean (in July).
Stop imagining.
You've found this land.
It's Finland!
Sandy, diving into Lake Lentunen in July 2010. Water temperature was an unbelievable 29C!

Ha ha, having lived in Finland for years, I can confirm that finding a lake that was 29c was a fluke!
Well, you would also remember then that 2010, when this lake, Lentunen, not far from Puumala was visited by us, was an exceptionally warm summer. In fact, Lake Hakojarvi close to Juva was also 29c the week before.
And in 2011, the same Hakojarvi was 28c in mid-July.
Last summer, the warmest lake we enjoyed only reached 26c, towards the end of July.
But, one thing is for sure- these temperatures are certainly true and are wonderful to enjoy, even if they only last for a week or two!
ha ha, oh yes, I belive you, I was also swimming in a Finnish lake that year, much nearer Helsinki though, and certainly not that warm!
Having been there many times for our summer holidays, I think eastern Finland, in the area around Juva- Puumala, provides the warmest lakes. But- these lakes are relatively small- if you look at them on Google Maps, you will see that they are not big lakes. And, in 2011, when we stayed one week in Hakojarvi lake, and one week in Lake Kolkonjarvi (only about 1km from Hakojarvi- but much larger and deeper) I can confirm that Kolkonjarvi was much cooler.
So- the moral is- find a smallish lake, in the east of the country, in July- and you are going to have the best chance of a lovely warm swim!
